Active Living Coordinator


Canadian Recreation Excellence Corporation is proud to have been selected by the City of Chilliwack to operate the City’s Recreation Centre’s (Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre, Cheam Leisure Centre and Rotary Outdoor Pool). Under the direction and supervision of the General Manager the Active Living Coordinator is the key team leader of the Health and Fitness program team. The successful applicant will be responsible for programming and maintaining the departments programs and schedules. The ideal candidate is energetic, personable, well organized, has superior interpersonal skills and excels in a fast paced, challenging work environment. The Active Living Coordinator is responsible for providing direction and support to all Fitness Staff and Volunteers. The Active Living Coordinator will implement programs and services to achieve initiatives in accordance with Recreation Excellence’s strategic plan for improving Health and Wellness within our Chilliwack facilities and our community. Achievement of these strategic initiatives will require working collaboratively with your fellow Managers and being open to new ideas and initiatives. In addition, the Active Living Coordinator will oversee and ensure smooth day-to-day departmental operations of the Fitness department and Youth Services department and provide effective departmental leadership, creating a positive work environment employees feel empowered and excited to be a part of.

This position requires flexibility and the ability to work independently while building strong relationships with our staff, participants and the community.


Active Living Coordinator

(25-hours per week)

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and a motivated Active Living Coordinator who possesses the following qualifications:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED

  • Fitness Qualifications:

    • 2-3 years of relevant supervisory or leadership skills and experience in health, wellness and fitness.
    • Minimum of 3-months of individual training/weight training experience or willing to get such experience within the first 6-months of employment.
    • Trainer Certificates through BCRPA or related
    • Other fitness and health & wellness training and certifications would be considered an asset
  • Education in Kinesiology, Recreation, Leisure, Business Studies, or a related field

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision

  • Works well as a team player as well as independently

  • Exemplary Customer Service

  • Stamina, Energy and Willingness to learn and provide a safe and enjoyable Recreation Facility through health and  wellness.

  • Proficient CLASS and Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Publisher considered an asset.

    Your duties include, but are not limited to the following

  • The ability to model appropriate behaviours as outlined in Organization’s 7 Unifying Principals – Unconditional Respect, Unconditional Trustworthiness, Team Work, Open, Forthright Communication, Perpetual Growth, Reverence for the Client & Company and Humour & Goodwill.

  • Direct Supervision and leadership of the fitness space by coordinating high quality Fitness and Health & Wellness programs, services, staff and volunteers.

  • Facilitate Fitness Orientations, Training and Development sessions for patrons and staff.

  • Ensure all fitness instructors’ awards and certifications are kept current and are up to date.

  • Contribute to strong communication with all team members, promote leadership and positive relationships.

  • Lead Group Fitness Classes, programs and workshops, as needed.

  • Evaluate the Fitness Classes (schedules and variety), as well as your instructors and determine the appropriate action to take to improve both the quality of the class and your instructors.

  • Ensure that equipment maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner to minimize equipment down time.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of the provisions and requirements of statutes, bylaws, and regulations affecting the facility.

  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations to work effectively and efficiently and to build a positive team environment.

  • Collaborate on budget and scheduling, marketing, strategic planning and other business practices to maintain and grow the department’s overall contribution.

  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and multitask to meet operational requirements.

  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team under pressure, set priorities and meet

    deadlines and be superior problem solving skills.

  • Ability to be flexible, decisive and deal with constantly changing work patterns and priorities.

  • Ability to communicate well with all facility staff members and volunteers

  • Provide excellent customer service to the public always

  • Perform all other related duties as required

    The successful candidate will have passion, enthusiasm and sufficient experience to develop and maintain a strong Health & Wellness department.

    The successful candidate will require a satisfactory Criminal Records Check and satisfactory vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment. The successful candidate must maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records and vulnerable sector check to remain on staff.

    Hourly Wage: $17 - $24 per hour, based on certifications and experiences.
