Group Fitness Instructor


Canadian Recreation Excellence Corporation (Chilliwack) is seeking passionate, enthusiastic and motivated Group Fitness Instructors for the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre and Cheam Leisure Centre Locations.

Specifically, instructors capable of teaching the following formats: Zumba, Yoga, Seniors classes-Sit and Be Fit and Cardio Light, Cardio and Strength Conditioning classes, AquaFit and Pi/Yo.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Group Fitness Certification from a recognized fitness association or a degree in a related field
  • Current Instructor Certifications/License, from a recognized provider, in one or more of the following:
    • Zumba  
    • Yoga
    • Pilates
    • Pi/Yo
    • Seniors/Third Age Fitness
    • AquaFit
    • Functional Training
    • Strength and Conditioning
    • Belly Dancing
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED
  • Strong ability to encourage and motivate others
  • Well-versed in basic anatomy, kinesiology, contraindicated exercises, exercise modifications for all populations and ACSM Guidelines for frequency, intensity, duration, and mode
  • Eager to learn and continue professional development and education
  • Friendly, vibrant and outgoing
  • Have access to regular email and phone communication
  • Prior Experience in teaching Group Fitness classes in a related discipline is an asset
  • Availablity and willingness to sub classes is an asset.

Position Duties:

  • The ability to model appropriate behaviours as outlined in Organization’s 7 Unifying Principals – Unconditional Respect, Unconditional Trustworthiness, Team Work, Open, Forthright Communication, Perpetual Growth, Reverence for the Client & Company and Humour & Goodwill.
  • Plan, organize and deliver high quality, safe and stimulating fitness classes for all levels of participants.
  • Keep current with industry trends and new class formats.
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging participants.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately.
  • Teach fitness classes on a regular basis keeping your subbed classes to a minimum.
  • Ensure qualifications are kept current, including CPR C annually.
  • Communicate with Fitness Manager; member feedback, class attendance numbers, equipment and operational status, emergency incidents, scheduling and subbing.
  • Sub classes when available.
  • Attend meetings and trainings, as required.
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for and with all participants and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The successful candidates will require a Criminal Record Check and Working with Vulnerable Persons search prior to commencing work. As well as, maintain a clean Criminal Record to remain on staff.
