Lifeguard Only (up to 15 positions available)




Canadian Recreation Excellence Corporation is proud to have been selected by the City of Chilliwack to operate the City’s Recreation Centre’s (Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre, Cheam Leisure Centre and Rotary Outdoor Pool) beginning in October 2015. We are in search of honest, hard-working, enthusiastic staff who are “Serious about Fun!”


Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Program Services and/or Aquatic Leader (or designate) and working in cooperation with the other Lifeguards this employee will be responsible for ensuring that our patrons have a safe, enjoyable and FUN swimming experience while at our facilities. The Aquatic team will provide high quality programs and service to our patrons and guests and will work as a member of the Health, Fitness and Recreation program team. Your responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, greeting all guests, patrons and customers in a pleasant and friendly manner, answering questions about the facility, our organization and its programs and services professionally, teaching swimming lessons, maintaining a safe aquatic environment, completing daily maintenance tasks, educating our patrons and guests on proper water safety habits and providing a safe and welcoming environment for children, teens and adults. Recreation Excellence’s emphasis is on the provision of safe yet dynamic aquatic programs and services, and outstanding customer service provided in a clean and welcoming facility.


Lifeguard Only (up to 15 positions available)

We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic and motivated Lifeguard/Swim Instructors who possess the following qualifications:

  • Lifesaving NLS Pool Option and/or NLS Waterpark
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED (Red Cross or Lifesaving)
  • WHMIS Training
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Works well as a team player as well as independently
  • Stamina, Energy and Willingness to learn and provide a safe and enjoyable aquatic facility

Your duties could include, but not limited to:

  • The ability to model appropriate behaviours as outlined in Organization’s 7 Unifying Principals – Unconditional Respect, Unconditional Trustworthiness, Team Work, Open, Forthright Communication, Perpetual Growth, Reverence for the Client & Company and Humour & Goodwill.
  • Be able to react to and work together with all departmental staff during medical emergencies and facility evacuations. Working as a cohesive team will ensure that everyone coordinates their responsibilities and ensures that the proper steps are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that our clients and staffs’ Safety is a priority. This is accomplished through Facility Analysis and a Risk Assessment as well as Prevention and proper Education and Training.
  • As per your NLS Training all staff must be alert and vigilant at all times while on deck. No other task(s) should interfere with a Lifeguards surveillance of the Pool area. Reading, eating, talking on the phone or socializing while on duty is prohibited.
    • Deliver high quality aquatic programs and services for our clients by following the standards and guidelines provided by Recreation Excellence and as recommended by our governing bodies.
    • Provide excellent customer service.
    • Perform routine pool cleaning, maintenance and janitorial, as needed.
    • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment.
    • Demonstrate an ability to resolve conflict effectively with both staff and guests.
  • Be on time for all assigned shifts or shifts covering for. Complete the proper shift coverage documentation.
  • Dress in the required Lifeguard or Swim Instructor uniform while on duty.
    • Report incidents or concerns to your Aquatic Team Leader or Aquatic Supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Maybe required to lift 50lbs or more, stand for long periods of time, bending, reaching and swimming. A normal range of hearing and vision is required.
    • Ensure all required aquatic certifications are kept current and up to date.
    • Attend all mandatory Inservice and Competency Training sessions to maintain employment status.
    • May be asked to work or perform other related duties.

Wage is dependent on experience: $11.00-$13.00 per hour. Employment includes a Family Facility Membership along with additional training and education.

Please Note: Those staff hired as just a Lifeguard or just a Swim Instructor are asked to completed their additional training within a timely manner to be a fully certified Lifeguard/Swim Instructor (NL Pool Option, SFA and CPR C/AED and WSI).

The successful candidates will require a Criminal Record Check and Working with Vulnerable Persons search prior to commencing work. As well as, maintain a clean Criminal Record to remain on staff.
