Fitness & Youth Services Manager

Canadian Recreation Excellence Corporation is proud to have been selected by the City of Chilliwack to operate the City's Recreation Centre's (Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre, Cheam Leisure Centre and Rotary Outdoor Pool) beginning in October 2015. We are in search of honest, hard-working, enthusiastic staff who are "Serious about Fun!"


Under the direction and supervision of the General Manager the Fitness & Youth Services Manger is the key team member of the Health, Fitness and Recreation program team. You will be responsible for programming and managing 2 important departments within our facilities – The Sports and Fitness Department and Youth Services Department. Each department will have a full time Supervisor to assist you. The ideal candidate is someone who is energetic, personable, well organized, has superior interpersonal skills and who excels in a fast paced, challenging work environment. The Fitness & Youth Services Manger is responsible for providing direction and support to all Fitness, Wellness, Volunteers and all Youth Services Staff. The Fitness & Youth Services Manger will implement programs and services to achieve initiatives in accordance with Recreation Excellence strategic plan for improving these programs and services within our Chilliwack facilities. Achievement of these strategic initiatives will require working collaboratively with your fellow Managers. In addition, the Fitness & Youth Services Manger will oversee and ensure smooth day-to-day departmental operations of the Fitness department and Youth Services department and provide effective departmental leadership, creating a positive work environment employees feel empowered and excited to be a part of.


This position requires flexibility and the ability to work independently while building strong relationships with our participants and community.

 


 


Fitness & Youth Services Manger


We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and a motivated Fitness & Youth Services Manger who possesses the following qualifications:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED
  • Fitness Qualifications:
    • 2-3 years of relevant supervisory or leadership skills and experience in health, wellness and fitness.
o Minimum of 3-months of individual training/weight training experience or willing to get within the first 6-
    • months of employment.
o Trainer Certificates through BCRPA or related
o
    • Other health, fitness & wellness training and certifications considered an asset
  • Youth Services Qualifications:

    • 1-2 years of relevant supervisory or leadership skills and experience in coordinating youth programs and services (Birthday Parties, Child-minding and Camps)
    •  BCRPA High Five
  • Education in Kinesiology, Recreation, Leisure, or Business Studies or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Works well as a team player as well as independently
  • Exemplary Customer Service Training
  • Stamina, Energy and Willingness to learn and provide a safe and enjoyable Recreation Facility through sports, fitness and 
recreation programs.
  • Proficient CLASS and Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Publisher considered an asset. 


Your duties could include, but not limited to:

  • The ability to model appropriate behaviours as outlined in Organization's 7 Unifying Principals – Unconditional Respect, Unconditional Trustworthiness, Team Work, Open, Forthright Communication, Perpetual Growth, Reverence for the Client & Company and Humour & Goodwill.
  • Direct Supervision and leadership of the fitness space by coordinating high quality fitness and wellness programs, services, staff and volunteers at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre and Cheam Leisure Centre.
  • Direct Supervision and leadership of the Youth space by coordinating high quality Youth Service programs, services, staff and volunteers at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre and Cheam Leisure Centre.
  • Facilitate Fitness Orientations, Training and Development sessions for patrons and staff.
  • • Ensure all staff awards and certifications are kept current and are up to date with the current trends in Fitness and 
Health and Wellness.
  • Contribute to strong communication with all team members, promoting leadership and positive relationships.
  • Lead Group Fitness Classes and programs where needed.
  • Evaluate Fitness Classes and your instructors and determine the appropriate action to take to improve both the 
quality of the class and your instructors
  • Ensure that equipment maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner to minimize equipment down 
time.
  • Building confidence in your staff to allow them to deliver a safe yet fun recreational experience by delivering high quality 
services and programs through programs, services and special events.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of the provisions and requirements of the statutes, bylaws, and regulations affecting the 
facility.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations, to work effectively and efficiently and to build a positive 
team environment.
  • Collaborate on budget and scheduling, marketing, strategic planning and other business practices to maintain and 
grown the departments overall contribution.
  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize, organizes, and multitask to meet operational requirements.
  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, under pressure, set priorities and meet 
deadlines with superior problem solving skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, decisive and deal with constantly changing work patterns and priorities.
  • Ability to communicate well with all facility staff members and volunteers
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public at all times
  • Perform all other related duties as required 


 

The successful candidate will have passion, enthusiasm and sufficient experience to develop and maintain a strong Fitness Departments and a keen interest is creating and maintaining a Youth Services Program. 


The successful candidates will require a Criminal Record Check and Working with Vulnerable Persons search prior to commencing work. As well as, maintain a clean Criminal Record to remain on staff.
