Canadian Recreation Excellence (Upper Skeena)
Upper Skeena Recreation Centre Job Description
(FULLTIME Term Position starts September 2020 – June 2021)
Reporting to the Program Manager and General Manager, this employee performs diversified work related to supporting the arena programming, outreach to the First Nations villages within the Upper Skeena and customer reception in accordance with established practices and procedures.  In addition, this employee provides general administrative support including but not limited to: reception, word-processing, spread sheeting, research, record keeping, booking requests and generating rental contracts and reports.  Some custodial work will be required in this position.  
The successful candidate will be expected to train on many aspects of facility operations including and not limited to janitorial functions, office functions, support to facility programming, and community programming.  
The employee is responsible for working with the Program Manager in working on a wide range of community-focused seasonal recreational programs and special events within the Recreation Department to improve the social interaction skills, academic abilities, and physical and psychological well-being of community members.  
This employee is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and overtime as required.   This position will also be required to work on weekends.

1. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
a) Provides leadership and direction to volunteers and youth leaders, with respect to day-to-day work, training, development & motivation, discipline, and termination to ensure optimum utilization of resources;
b) Assists in the preparation of brochures, bulletins, press releases, program schedules, inventories, requisitions, and maintaining sufficient program equipment and supplies.  
c) Informs the Program Manager of incidents and developments of an operational or political nature that relate to the recreational interests of the company;
d) scheduling of facilities and equipment, booking requests, inputting information into a booking program, and generating contracts & reports; 
e) Perform janitorial duties and routine building maintenance;
f) Provides telephone reception for the Main Office, answer and forward all in-coming telephone calls, providing information, taking and relaying messages; 
g) Assist with set up and take down for community events occurring at the facilities and provide assistance with company special events and projects as required; 
h) Assists in supporting a successful Volunteer Program;
i) Performs other job-related duties as assigned and required to maintain a functional recreation center; and
j) Maintain dress code & attire provided by Recreation Excellence at all times.
2. Knowledge of and ability to:
a) Physically capable of carrying out the duties of the position involving bending lifting and moving of heavy or light objects;
b) Work is performed mostly in office settings, although some programs will require some outdoor work in all weather conditions and may be occasionally exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions;  
c) Ability to serve the company and the client public with tact, impartiality, while preserving confidentiality and sensitivity on issues and material dealt with on a regular basis;
d) Effective oral and written communications, presentation and leadership, interpersonal skills;
e) Work often has urgency and formal deadlines, the employee must be able to be flexible and prioritize work to meet such deadlines;
f) learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation;
g) read, understand and interpret policies and procedures;
h) Deals tactfully and courteously with the public and practices good public relations while responding to public inquiries;
i) Prioritizes and multitasks while anticipating the needs of the facility and the public;
j)  Keeps accurate records, including but not limited to: Daily logs, equipment, and material usage reports, while following established safety rules and regulations;
k) Uses computer applications as required;
l) Work well both in a team situation and independently; and 
m) Works effectively and maintains harmonious relationships with government agencies, cities, personnel, staff and elected office.
3. Education, Qualifications, Licenses, Certificates
a) Program/Office experience;
b) Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License; Provide the Company with a copy of the appropriate business insurance certificate annually (company will pay for the additional fee)
c) Computer skills sufficient to obtain information from the registration system and familiar with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and communications applications;
d) Completion of Grade 12 education and Post-secondary education in Office Administration, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge 
e) Criminal Record Check
f) Ability to handle Cash, Cheques & Credit Card Payments
